We’re Here to Help
Welcome to our IQ Fiber Smart Center, your go-to destination for all things IQ Fiber! Whether you’re looking to grasp the fundamentals, troubleshoot an issue, or find answers to the commonly asked questions, you’re in the right place. Our goal is to provide you with the tools to make the most of your fiber-optic-internet.
Construction and Installation
There is a lot of planning and work that goes into the building of our 100% fiber-optic network. We are here to give you the run down on how we bring fiber directly to your home.
The Construction Process
At IQ Fiber, our construction process consists of three steps: Design, Construction, and Splicing. Each step has been carefully crafted to deliver a seamless network experience to your neighborhood.
Step 1: Design
In the Design phase, we work closely with local authorities to create a customized plan for every neighborhood. Our goal is to connect your community while minimizing any damage or disruption to your neighborhood. We work diligently to locate vital infrastructure such as gas, electric, and water lines. We also work to locate and avoid sprinkler systems and invisible dog fences. Most of our infrastructure is installed underground. This not only protects the fiber-optic cables from weather damage but also enables us to discreetly conceal equipment, minimizing any disruption to your neighborhood. Additionally, we provide advance notice to each home before we break ground, to ensure transparency and keep you informed throughout the process.
Step 2: Construction
From start to finish, our top priority is minimizing damage to your home and neighborhood. We work within the utility easement and public right-of-way to install underground conduit and access vaults. Any cut sod will be prepped and placed on tarps for easy installation. You can expect to see flags and bright paint indicating existing infrastructure. You’ll also notice our IQ Fiber construction workers, trucks, and additional signage. We’ll notify you when construction is about to commence and you can expect to see updates via email, direct mail, and on our website. If you have any concerns, please report them to our team or reach out to your neighborhood’s designated construction coordinator for a prompt resolution.
Step 3: Splicing
Once the underground conduit and access vaults are in place, our construction teams install the fiber-optic cables and connect them to form a seamless network. Thorough testing ensures that the network meets our high standards of speed and reliability. While there may be less visible construction activity after splicing, rest assured that significant work is happening behind the scenes. A two-week testing period follows to ensure the network’s readiness for optimal performance.
Our carefully developed three-step process aims to connect your neighborhood with minimal interruption. We strive to leave your community as close to its original state as possible, with the added benefit of the fastest upload and download speeds! To learn more about the construction process or to submit a question, please go to our construction page.
The Installation Process
Pre-Installation
Prior to your installation appointment, our crew will pull fiber from the public right-of-way to the side of your home. We strategically attach a small NID (Network Interface Device) box (measuring 4.5″x7″) to the side of your home according to our network design. This placement, typically 2′-3′ off the ground, is carefully chosen to optimize your connectivity. Our drop team will ensure that the wiring is buried immediately to avoid any unsightly wires on your lawn for extended periods of time.
This process can occur anytime between the moment you place your order and your scheduled installation day. No need to be at home during this phase but our crews will knock on your door when they arrive.
In-Home Installation Appointment
Once your installation is scheduled, you will receive an email confirmation. Please note that your appointment time indicates the arrival window of your technician, and the process will take approximately 90 minutes.
You can expect to receive a phone call from our team when they are on their way (~30 minutes prior to arrival). Please make sure that:
- An adult over the age of 18 is present for the entirety of the installation
- Any pets are secured during the appointment
- Gates or points of entry are open
During your in-home installation, our expert crew will take a comprehensive look at your home layout as well as your internet habits. This analysis helps to determine the best equipment and its location to deliver you the best whole-home WiFi experience tailored to your needs. They will carefully connect the fiber-optic cable from the exterior NID directly into your home. Next, they will place your gateway and connect you to our 100% fiber-optic network.
Once your installation is complete, our technician will help you download the IQ Fiber Smart WiFi app onto your smartphone. This user-friendly app empowers you to manage your internet service and all your connected devices with ease, putting you in control of your network.
After making sure that your connection is up and running as expected, we promise to leave your home just as pristine as when we arrived. Your installation technician is there to answer any questions that you may have. Our goal is to create not just a smooth installation experience but also a positive one.

We’ll also walk you through the process of connecting to your IQ Fiber app so you can personally test and keep an eye on your speeds. But it doesn’t stop there, our team proactively monitors your network status and will notify you with any service updates or outages. We’re all about transparency and making sure you’re getting what you expect.

With IQ Fiber, you’ll never have to settle for subpar internet, hidden fees and contracts, or automated customer service bots again.
Smart WiFi App Management
The IQ Fiber Smart WiFi App is installed on your phone during your installation appointment. The installation technician will get you set up and show you how to use it, but we’ve included everything you need to know here as well. Read on to learn more about navigating in the app, features, and settings.
How to Navigate the App
The Smart WiFi app has 6 main sections: Home, My Network, Things, People, Places, and Settings. Let’s go through each one:
Home
This section helps you to navigate throughout the app. You can get to each area by either selecting the option on the home screen or in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen.
My Network
In the My Network section, you can:
- View IQ Fiber network connection, login information, and network status at a glance.
- Complete a bandwidth test to see just how fast your speeds are!
- View the Network Map to see which devices are connected to each piece of WiFi equipment in your home.
- View data usage for each connected device in your home (even though we don’t limit your data usage, this is still good to know!)
Things
In the Things section, you can:
- See which devices are connected to your network.
- View detailed data usage for each connected device.
- Disconnect or reconnect any device from your network at any time.
People
In the People section, you can:
- Assign devices to different members of your household.
- Disconnect or reconnect all devices associated to a single person at any time.
- Limit internet use for any person to specific hours of the day.
Places
In the Places section, you can:
- Assign devices to different locations/rooms around your home.
- Disconnect or reconnect any device associated to a place.
Settings
In the Settings section, you can:
- Create admin access for other members of your household.
- Update the account name and/or SSID (WiFi) name.
- Change your login email address and/or password. You can also create a passcode PIN in lieu of a password.
- Reset your WiFi password.
- Manage push notifications to your phone.
Completing Common Actions in the App
Sure, here’s the content with all the `` tags removed:
In this section, we’ll discuss actions you can complete within the Smart WiFi app to manage your account and update settings.
Update Your Network Information
- Within the Smart WiFi app, tap the My Network section to see every network in your account.
- Tap on the network you’d like to view or edit, then Edit in the top right corner.
- Update the network name, WiFi password, or security type* associated with the network.
- Tap Save to submit these changes.
*Security Type is the protocol used to protect your WiFi network. We recommend using WPA2-WPA3-Personal for optimal speed and bandwidth on compatible devices. If your network isn’t already using WPA2-WPA3-Personal, you can update it in this section of the app. Please note:
- Updating the Security Type setting may disconnect some devices from your network.
- Some older devices may not reconnect using the WPA2-WPA3-Personal setting because they are not compatible. In this case, we recommend you use the WPA2-Personal setting.
Update Your User Profile Information
- Within the Smart WiFi app, tap the gear icon in the lower right corner of your screen to access the Settings section.
- Tap Account and Admins, then Edit in the top right corner.
- Update your name, email, and app password. You can also tap on the photo icon to add a profile photo.
- Tap Save to submit these changes.
Set Up a Guest Network
A guest network is an “open” version of your internet service. It can be used by anyone, but excludes access to connected devices and security settings. This is a great way to provide internet access to your guests while keeping your network secure. Here’s how to set one up using the IQ Fiber Smart WiFi App:
- Within the Smart WiFi app, tap on My Network.
- Tap on the plus sign icon in the top right corner of your screen and select Add Network.
- Under “Wireless Network Type” tap Select Type, then Guest.
- Type a Network Name (“guestwifi” or “guestnetwork” for example).
- Under Security Type, select WPA2-WPA3-Personal from the dropdown.
- Set a WiFi password.
- Leave the Isolation setting to Enabled (this is how it’s set by default). This will keep your network secure no matter who is using the guest network.
- By default, the network will be set up to stay active indefinitely. You can change this setting so it’s only active at certain times by tapping Custom under the Duration section. From here, select the preferred start and end times.
- Tap Save in the top right corner of the screen to submit your changes.
Share Network Logins with a Guest
- Within the Smart WiFi app, tap on My Network.
- Tap on the network you’d like to share to open the network details, then tap the Share Network button.
- Your guest can scan the QR code* directly from your phone if they are standing next to you. Otherwise, select the Share via Text button and choose the correct contact from your phone.
- Once the contact is selected, a text message preview will open on your screen. This text will share the QR code and login information with your contact. All you have to do is send the text!
*If you aren’t sure how to use a QR code, no worries! Here’s how:
- Start by opening the camera app on your phone.
- Move your phone over the QR code as if you were going to take a picture of it. You’ll see a small yellow bubble of text appear next to the QR code – tap on it.
- This will take you to the website link associated with that QR code!
Create & Manage Parental Controls
Parents often want to limit their kids’ access to the internet for a variety of reasons. The Smart WiFi app offers two methods to limit screentime in your house – by person or by place.
Set Parental Controls by Person
This is best for limiting internet use on devices only being used by a single person. For example: Disable internet access for all of your daughter’s devices after 10pm. Here’s how to do it:
- Within the Smart WiFi app, tap on People.
- Tap the plus sign icon in the top right corner of the screen to add a new person. Type in the person’s name, then select from the list of devices which ones belong to that person. Tap Save in the top right corner of the screen.
- You’ll now see the new “Person” you’ve created. You can quickly turn the connection on or off for all of this person’s devices from this screen. To set more custom controls, tap on the arrow to the right of their name.
- Tap on Time Limits and select from the dropdown the type of limit you wish to set. “Everyday” will recur at the same time every day, and “Custom” allows you to set different times for different days.
- Tap Save in the top right corner of the screen to submit your changes.
Set Parental Controls by Place
This is best for limiting screentime by a specific room or area of your house. For example: Disable streaming to the TV in the game room. Here’s how to do it:
- Within the Smart WiFi app, tap on Places.
- Tap the plus sign icon in the top right corner of the screen to add a new place. Type in the place’s name, then select from the list of devices located in that place. Tap Save in the top right corner of the screen.
- You’ll now see the new “Place” you’ve created.
- From here, you’ll see a list of devices for each “Place” you create. You can turn WiFi on or off to any devices listed in each place.
Run a Bandwidth (Speed) Test
It’s good to check the speeds available in your home from time to time to make sure everything is running as expected. Here’s how to run a test right from the IQ Fiber Smart WiFi app:
- Within the Smart WiFi app, tap on My Network.
- Tap on the Bandwidth Test icon towards the bottom of the screen, then tap the Run Test button.
- Once the test is completed, you’ll see results for each piece of equipment connected to your network. Please note: these are the speeds coming from your WiFi equipment and are not necessarily what you’ll see on each connected device. To learn more about expected speeds for specific devices, you can give us a call at 904-289-1000.
- Learn more about how to interpret your speed test results here.

Taking Your Home Phone Online
Is it possible to keep your home phone but still upgrade your home to IQ Fiber’s fiber-optic internet? Absolutely! We’re committed to providing you with cutting-edge internet that suits your needs. We understand that your home phone is important to maintain. Rest assured – you can continue to enjoy this convenience even if you choose not to rely on a traditional provider.
How Internet-Based Home Phones Work
Internet-based phone services, also known as VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), offer an impressive way to communicate. When you make a call, your voice transforms into digital data. Instead of using traditional phone lines, this digital voice data travels through the internet, much like sending an email or a message on social media.
When this data reaches the person you’re calling, it’s transformed back into sound that they can hear, just like a typical phone call. This process allows for a two-way conversation where both you and the person you’re calling can talk and listen at the same time, just as you would in a normal phone conversation.
To use internet-based phone services, you’ll need a reliable internet connection. This is the key to ensuring your calls are consistently crystal clear. You have the flexibility to use various devices, whether it’s your original home phone with a special adapter or a sophisticated VoIP phone.
The Benefits
- Flexibility and Freedom: Enjoy the convenience of placing your equipment anywhere in your home for optimal signal strength and personal convenience. You can also make calls from anywhere you have an internet connection, making it perfect for travelers.
- Savings and Value: Often, VoIP calls are cheaper than traditional phone calls, especially for long-distance or international conversations. They also come with features like voicemail, call forwarding, and video calls.
- Keep Your Home Phone Number: Most VoIP providers allow you to port (transfer) your existing phone number to their service.
Are There Any Downsides?
The quality of your call depends on your internet connection. A stable, high-speed connection (like fiber-optic internet) will generally provide excellent call quality. However, if your internet is slow or unreliable, you may experience some issues. This also means that your phone service may be affected if your internet goes down. Having a fast and reliable internet connection is vital with VoIP services.
Exploring Home Phone Services
There are numerous providers to choose from when transitioning your home phone service to an online platform, including RingCentral, Vonage, and Nextiva. However, we recommend Ooma because they are reliable, cost-efficient, and you can source their product locally!
Ooma offers a range of units such as the Ooma Telo Air, Ooma Telo Air 2, and original Ooma Telo device. These are compact black boxes that seamlessly connect to your existing home phone. Once linked to the internet, your home phone’s base unit communicates with the Ooma equipment, effectively transforming it into a conventional cordless telephone. After the initial equipment purchase, you can expect to pay an estimated $4 – $9 each month for their service.
Ooma, among other providers, presents an excellent option to maintain your home phone with IQ Fiber while enjoying significant cost savings!
